Harry Potter in the flesh

Bet you've received these in your email, but here's a backgrounder to the provocative pics:

Associated Press, Feb. 1, 2007--"Harry Potter" star Daniel Radcliffe, who strips for his new role in London's West End revival of the play "Equus," has ignited a bit of a media firestorm by posing for racy promotional photos for the production.

The Tony-Award-winning drama tells the story of a stable-hand who has an erotic fixation with horses. In one photo, Radcliffe, 17, dares to bare it all alongside a white horse; in another, he is pictured with a naked Joanna Christie, the actress who portrays his girlfriend.

"Equus," directed by Thea Sharrock, opens at London's Gielgud Theater on Feb. 27. Tony Award-winning actor Richard Griffiths plays a pyschiatrist who treats Radcliffe's character.

"Part of me wants to shake up people's perception of me, just shove me in a blender," Radcliffe said in a recent interview with Newsweek magazine.

"It's a really challenging play, and if I can pull it off--we don't know if I can yet--I hope people will stop and think, 'Maybe he can do something other than Harry,'" he said.

Radcliffe, who was discovered seven years ago in the audience of a London theater, reprises his role as the bespectacled boy wizard in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," slated for release July 13.

Indeed. They boy has grown up, much to the worldly satisfaction of the ladies and gents.(You know what I mean)

It's still an interesting play, and if I could, I would watch it. I've never really seen a film actor do a stage play before.

I guess its understandable if Daniel wants to make people look at him as other than Harry Potter. Some actors haven't been very successful in making the transition, like Lynda Carter or Mark Hamill. (Yikes! I'm giving myself away here!:))

it simply means, i surmise, that daniel will not always be harry potter. some years from now the series will end and soon the young daniel will no longer be the same again.

alan strang is one of the most complex, compelling, morally-baffling characters ever written for stage -- and later film. i wonder how radcliffe's inability of act will help the play. or are abs and pecs enough? hehe

hi ANNAMANILA, i'll do it, i'll do it! :)

hey JHAY, start with homegrown plays. we've got a number of movie stars who cross over to theater. :)

GYPSY, that's right, mark hamill! i remember him in his paunchy middle age appearing in B movies. sad. :)

agree, JONELL. and naturally when he's no longer harry potter he'd want some form of versatility to his career. :)

totoo, BEEKTUR, i've always thought he's a shallow actor, even in the best film to date in the series (alfonso cuaron's).:)

hello WALTZANG, welcome to the comments section! :)
