Let's do Tony!

Julia Roberts with Paul Rudd in "Three Days of Rain" (2006)

So how do Hollywood celebs fare on Broadway when they dare tread the boards? Some unlikely names get the Tony crowd cheering (Antonio Banderas in a live musical), some others get the snub (Julia Roberts! Denzel Washington!).

Sean 'P.Diddy' Combs. Hugh Jackman. Kevin Spacey. Melanie Griffith. Vanessa Williams. Sarah Jessica Parker. Nicole Kidman. Billy Crystal. Banderas and Roberts and Washington. These A-list stars chucked their multimillion-dollar paychecks for a chance to earn acting spurs in the medium of theater. Who among them soared, and who got yawned out of town?

Entertainment Weekly provides an appraisal here (and it's not pretty for the Pretty Woman!).

aba, buti naman napansin mo. Haha. I had to do a print screen on that, by the way. The text won't be copied if I simply save the image.

Tsk tsk. Effort. Haha. And yeah, I'm fine with coffee as long as you don't force me to drink coffee.

*Benj hates coffee*

Speaking of Chita Rivera, there is an exciting new group on Yahoo called The Judy Garland Experience. The group features lively discussions, rare photo's, and amazing audio files. This week we are featuring Judy's complete 1958 concert at Chicago's Orchestra Hall, a 1977 Salute to Kander and Ebb starring Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera, a 1940's Radio show where Judy sings Why Don't You Do Right, I Remember You, You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To and others, Judy's 1967 songs and conversations from and about Valley Of The Dolls, plus all sorts of other odds and ends, you will just have to check us out to see what else we have.
The group's membership includes Garland family members, other celebrities, author's, historian's, film maker's, and fan's from every level, the only thing missing is you! So, please, stop by our little Judyville and check it out, you may never want to leave.

I love musical theater!I even took a class in college eventhough I was a science major. I'm excited for this year's Tony Awards. It sucks coz I have'nt been able to watch shows as much as I did before. I also have to wait for these shows to get to L.A. but everytime I go to NYC, I make sure to watch at least one. Can't wait.

The pretty woman seemed to have been not only unprettified but also oldified in the play.

Hey, Gibbs, can I post here you five "interview me: questions?

Ok here goes.

1. How do we foster love of theatre among the young?
2. You have the opportunity to write the script for one great Pilipino play. How will its plot go. Who are you going to cast there?
3. Since many in nature manifest gayness (or androgyny), why do people say it's unnatural?
4. So what kind of day did you have after you proclaimed "the end of the world."
5. And so did it hurt the "first time." (interpret it anyway you wish .. ha ha).

Hope these questions are worth of GC.

Hi Gibbs
The first thing that came into my mind when I read this post was, "Hey how come he didn't mention the brilliant Hugh Jackman?!" Buti na lang nasa list ng EW..kundi talagang magtatampo ako big time. Bwehehe.

hi GYPSY, hugh jackman's in the list. though technically he really shouldn't be there, because before he became a bonafide hollywood star he had already done extensive musical theater in london and australia. 'the boy from oz' merely cemented his broadway rep. but yeah, he's brilliant and funny. love him too! :)
