'Florante at Laura' from Gantimpala Theater

The Gantimpala Theater Foundation kicks off its 30th year in Philippine theater with "Florante at Laura," Francisco Balagtas' awit, now reinvented as a modern-day komedya.

Giving life to the Christian royalty are Joel Molina (Florante); Kimberly Diaz (Laura); Arkin Da Silva (Adolfo); Bodjie Pascua (Duke Briseo); Billy Parjan (Antenor); Basil Tensuan (Haring Linceo);Pamela Hundana (Reyna Floresca); Noel Escondo (Menandro); and Michael King Urieta (Batang Florante/Narrator).
Portraying the Moor monarchs are Soliman Cruz (Sultan Ali-adab); Billy Parjan (Emir); Christopher David (Aladin); Julius Empredo (Osmalik) and Nelia Aguado (Flerida).

Roobak Valle is director and production designer. Playwright is Rene Villanueva. Lights designer is Andy Villareal. Choreographer is Sergio Anlocotan Jr. Production Manager is Charyl Chan-de Guzman. Stage Manager is Joey David.

Performances are on July 22 (7 p.m., Concert at the Park Open Air-Auditorium, Luneta, Manila); July 27-29 (10 a.m./2 p.m., AFP Theater, Quezon City); August 3-4 (10 a.m./2 p.m. SM Mall of Asia Premiere Theater, Diosdado Macapagal Avenue, Pasay City); and August 10-11 (SM Southmall Cinema 6, Zapote-Alabang Road, Las Piñas City).
