Gina Alajar will be making her English-language stage debut in the multiple roles of the penitent wife, Leonor Ledesma and Lola Narcisa. She last appeared on stage in the Tagalog adaptation of "The Vagina Monologues."
Teresa Herrera, a Fil-Am actress who has appeared in several Hollywood films, will be playing Rio Gonzaga, the balikbayan writer who learns to appreciate her homeland despite its flaws.
Chari Arespacochaga returns to the stage in the dual roles of Pucha and Trini Gamboa. She last appeared on stage in Repertory Philippines’ "Glorious." Ana Bitong, one of the most versatile theatre performers in Manila, will also be playing multiple roles.
"Dogeaters," which played at New York’s Public Theatre in 2001 to rave reviews, tells the story of over 40 people (performed by 16 actors) during the tumultuous administration of President Ferdinand Marcos and his wife, Imelda. Funny and heartbreaking, the play is based on Hagedorn's New York Times best-selling novel, which was also nominated for a National Book Award.
"Dogeaters," to be directed by Bobby Garcia, opens November 16 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium, RCBC Plaza, Makati City. Production design by Mio Infante, lighting Design by Jay Aranda and original musical scoring by ManMan Angsico.
