Calling all Filipino artists!

From Nanding Josef, CCP Artistic Director:

“The Artists Welfare Project, Inc., a private corporation of artists, is finally registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. We can now move on faster so we can provide assistance to artists in need. Please attend the general assembly on Tuesday, October 16, 4-6 p.m., at MKP, 4th Floor, Cultural Center of the Philippines. Agenda includes report on activities, membership, finances, orientation of new enrollees, etc. Please invite your other artist-friends. Thank you.”

I know that this project is noble and long overdue. But how does one become a recepient of welfare? How does one claim to be an artist in the first place and thus deserving of financial assistance? I guess I'm just wondering about the implementation. Is there some union membership for artists that may pre-qualify someone like the movie workers being helped out by Mowelfund? How poor or destitute does one have to be? Aren't all artists poor? Isn't that what art is all about? Just thinking po.

STEVIE, thanks for your comments. honestly i've no answers to most of your questions, because i'm not a member of the guild. i suppose they have guidelines on who qualifies to get in and receive assistance, etc. i'll poke around for more details. :)

That's okay Gibbs. I wasn't really expecting any answers. I'm just hoping that these people in the project know what they are getting themselves into. Anyway, thanks for the offer to poke around.
