Gantimpala marks Rizal Day with kiddie play

"Ang Pagong at Ang Matsing" is one of the very few children’s tales that was drawn by the national hero Jose Rizal, as a gift to his nieces and nephews.

Now, Palanca-winning winner J. Dennis Teodosio, together with award-winning musical composer Jesse Lucas and Gantimpala Theater artistic director Tony S. Espejo, has adapted this children’s story into a fun-filled musical that imparts lessons on friendship, forgiveness, sharing, and love for the environment.

Playing the major characters are Michael King Urieta (Pagong) and Francis Ong (Matsing), with support from their sidekicks Meldea Flor Formacil (Suso, best friend of Pagong) and Anthony Cruz (Tarsier, sparring partner of Matsing).

Essaying special roles in this presentation, which will be held today, December 30, are Kimberly Diaz (Doña Teodora Alonzo) and John Rhoderey Dizon (the young Pepe).

"Ang Pagong at Ang Matsing" is open to the public at the Concert at the Park Open Air Auditorium, 6:30p.m., inside the historic Luneta Park.
