Balagtas' 'Orosman at Zafira' from Dulaang UP

Dulaang UP's fourth offering for its 32nd theater season is a Filipino classic about love, honor and war--Francisco Baltazar's "Orosman at Zafira."

Considered as one of the best-written literary pieces by the "Prince of Tagalog Poetry," "Orosman at Zafira" tells the story of man's lust for power while highlighting the women characters and how they challenge prevailing social norms and restrictions. The cast includes Maita Ponce (as Zafira), Arnold Reyes and Lex Marcos (as Orosman/Abdalap), JC Santos (as Zelim), Ricky Ibe (as Boulasem), Stella Canete and Jean Judith Javier (as Gulnara), Hazel Maranan, Tao Aves and Natasha Cabrera (as Zelima).

Movement, choreography and direction by Dexter Santos. The original neo-ethnic music is composed by Pinikpikan's lead vocalist Carol Bello. Other members of the artistic team are Anril Tiatco (deviser), Tuxqs Rutaquio (production designer) and John Batalla (lighting designer).

"Orosman at Zafira" is part of the first International Komedya Fiesta of the UP Centennial Celebration, and will be staged February 13-March 2 at the Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero Theater, 2nd Floor, Palma Hall, UP Diliman, QC.
