More events for the arts-minded

I'm giving way to e-mails and/or text messages from people with upcoming shows or events that should be of interest to us.

'Relasyon Rebelasyon' at UP Diliman
UP Dulaang Laboratoryo presents Relasyon Rebelasyon, a twinbill of the plays Ateng by Vincent De Jesus and Isang Libong Tula Para sa Dibdib Ni Dulce by Layeta Bucoy.

Ateng revolves around the story of two gay brothers, Kiwi and Juicy, each with a different view of handling relationships. Juicy is the younger one, a scatterbrained Tina Turner fan who hopelessly in love with Onyx, who doesn't return his feelings and treats him as an ATM. Kiwi is the older of the two, wise and independent like his idol Madonna. Kiwi wants to set things right for Juicy, but will he succeed?

Isang Libong Tula Para sa Dibdib ni Dulce revolves around the story of Totoy and how his pure love for Dulce becomes tainted before his very eyes, leading to murder. The story shows the breast of a woman in a 'different light'.

Both plays are directed by Trixie Dauz. Show is on April 1, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., at the Teatro Hermogenes Ylagan, Faculty Center, UP Diliman. Admission is free.

Cast includes Ram Tolentino, Jacqui Amper, Jerald Napoles, Gino Ramirez, Ralf Jalbuena, Arvin Trinidad. For inquiries and seat reservations, please call 0917-6085841.

Artists' Fair in Cubao
My name is Sandy Allan, I have a shop in Cubao Expo (formerly Marikina Shoe Expo) called The READING ROOM. I am organizing (together with my shop-owner neighbors Halmen of Halo Cafe & Tricia of Oohwables Shop) "Kabuwanan sa Cubao Expo: A Full Moon Artists' Fair." It's going to be held on April 5, Saturday, 10 a.m. onwards. This is a non-profit, "for the artist, by the artist, and because of the artist" event.

-There will be a concert headlined by Joey Ayala, The Jerks and over a dozen more local bands.
-We're going to have a street exhibit of the works of local noted and rising painters, photographers, sculptors & other visual artists.
-There will be a silent auction of the donated works of the participants, the proceeds of which will go to the family of the late Noe Tio, drummer of Joey Ayala's famous group.
-A poetry competition is currently underway, judged by award-winning poets/writers Danny Sillada, Wendell Capili & Sonny Villafania (the winning works will be recited/performed on the day itself).
-A comic skit headlined by noted comedic actor Gabe Mercado's group will be holding court for a full hour to render you helpless with laughter and delight. -A Full Moon Fashion Walk-Off featuring 20 young designers' works free-walked by their models will be another audience-pleaser.
-Street art, on-the-spot portraitures, and workshops by Cubao Expo's tenant art galleries will be held on the same day.
-LomoManila will hold a major photo exhibit featuring their members' works. -Mogwai will have a filmfest in honor of the day.
-An Installation Art Parts Repository will be set up where everyone can dump their clean junk for artists to select from and take for free for their projects.

Broadwayoke Night, Mag:Net Cafe (an update)
Hi Gibbs! It's Gabe Mercado. I'm one of the organizers for Broadwayoke.

Thanks for the blog mention! Unfortunately it won't be every week. The next one will be on April 8 (back to back with SPIT), with the next one probably in May. We don't want to have it too often kasi baka magka-sawaan.

However, we're having other nights that might be interesting for the theater audience as well. We're having Powerpoint as Performance Art Night on April 22, also back to back with SPIT. And on April 29, we'll be having out first Mag:net Spelling Bee. The events are organized by Geek Chorus--"Stupid events for smart people."

Thanks again for the mention!

gibbs, i hope you are watching and reporting back the performances of the theater groups from outside NCR. i am certain their productions will be more innovative, relevant, immediate and more emotionally-resonant than the tired, commercial broadway stagings. hehe, wala lang.
