Starring Ms. Cherie Gil in the title role of Maria Callas, "Master Class" will be directed by theater stalwart Michael Williams.

The show will run at the Carlos P. Romulo Theater, RCBC Plaza, Makati City on October 9, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 25, 8 p.m.

this sounds great. i read the text of master class (haven't seen any production yet) from the book YOU gave me aeons ago. callas' bigger-than-life life calls for an actress who can be much bigger than the stage she is on. i am curious how they will incorporate her music. is cherie going to lipsynch? she seems to be ok with pop songs but with opera..?

BEEKTUR, the callas character doesn't do any actual singing in this play. if you remember from the book, she's actually retired when she gave the master class. her glory years were behind her, so the musical snippets all form part of her remembered world now, fleeting fragmentary. she does a lot of miming, though--the kind of operatic acting that she has to teach the students--who are the ones tasked to sing live. :)

yep, JEPOY, that was jay valencia glorioso, and she was very good in the role. i suppose poc's staging it again because the play is a fine piece of theater that has parts for trained operatic singers. and then of course, there's the opportunity to work with cherie gil. :)
