Monique Wilson in V-Day's 10th anniversary show with Oprah, Glenn Close, Jane Fonda

Just got word that theater stalwart Monique Wilson will be part of the two-day 10th anniversary celebration of V-Day, the international women empowerment movement spurred by and anchored on Eve Ensler's groundbreaking play, “The Vagina Monologues.”

“V to the Tenth” will be held on April 12 at the New Orleans Arena, with a constellation of celebrities lending their clout and star wattage to the event.

Leading the glamazon list is Oprah Winfrey, joined by Jane Fonda, Salma Hayek, Rosario Dawson, Jennifer Beals, Christine Lahti, Jessica Alba, Calpernia Addams, Lilia Aragon, Stephanie Bataille, Peter Buffet, Didi Conn, Kristen Krepela, Ali Larter, Liz Mikel, Doris Roberts, Leslie Townsend and Kerry Washington.

Now get this: Monique will do the monologue “Reclaiming Cunt” from “The Vagina Monologues” in Filipino, alongside Glenn Close who will be doing the same monologue in English.

For her part, Oprah will perform a special new monologue written by Ensler. There will also be musical performances by Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson, Charmaine Neville and The New Orleans Gospel Choir.

Monique, the only Filipino in the gathering, was personally invited by Ensler to join the celebration, no doubt in recognition of the far-reaching achievement that New Voice Company has done with “The Vagina Monologues.” For years now, Monique's theater company has toured the play all over the Philippines, in both English and Filipino, and has even brought it to other Asian countries like Singapore and Japan.

The word “vagina,” once verboten in media and polite conversation, is now spoken without blushing, and NVC's efforts have helped redefine the boundaries of provocative theater-making in the country.

Now “puki” in all its glory will ring out in New Orleans. Way to go, Monique!

That's wonderful news! And, you're absolutely right about the ringing tones the word "puki" will make. It will reverberate... ;)
