Two from Ateneo

Twinbill from Theater Arts Seniors
The Ateneo Theater Arts Seniors of batch 08-09 will be staging two new plays as a fundraising activity for their upcoming thesis. The twin billing will feature 'Tagay' by Jo-Anne Quiros and 'Bahay-bahayan' by Jacky delos Reyes. The plays are unstaged works by theater students of the University of the Philippines and are products of Dr. Anton Juan Jr's playwriting class from 2005.

Both plays will be directed by Rayna Vihuela Reyes, an Ateneo Theater Arts senior. She has recently taken a directing course under Dr. Ricardo Abad, the present Director of the university's Theater Arts Program and Artistic Director of Tanghalang Ateneo.

The twin bill will run August 6-August 23 (Wednesdays-Saturdays) at the Fine Arts Theatre, 3rd floor Gonzaga Hall (Ateneo Loyola Schools in Katipunan) with 7 p.m. shows, as well as 3 p.m. shows on Saturdays. Tickets are sold at P120 only.

BlueRep's 'Summer of '42' now on its second week
Ateneo BlueRepertory proudly launches its 17th season with 'Summer of '42,' a warm, wistful musical that ventures through the eyes of three 15-year old boys as they come to discover the paradox of love and sex at a time of war.

Hermie, Oscy, and Benjie welcome what would be an unforgettable summer on an island off the coast of Maine. Their thoughts, once occupied by baseball, have now turned to girls and thus pubescent mishaps ensue. From meeting girls to trying to get to second base, the boys stumble awkwardly on. Hermie befriends Dorothy, a young bride whose husband is fighting in the war. Between the two of them, he discovers a friendship unlike any other. On that fateful summer, Hermie learns a valuable lesson about life, love, sex, and the scope of human compassion.

With direction by Mahar Mangahas ('Monday Nights, New Voices,' 'The Last 5 Years,' 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'), musical direction by Laura Cabochan ('Bat Boy: The Musical,' 'High School Musical,' 'Hope for the Flowers'), choreography by Mian Dimacali ('Bat Boy: The Musical'), scenic design by Jesus Ignacio ('Sister Act: Back in the Habit,' 'Middle Finger Po'), and lights design by Voltaire De Jesus, 'Summer of '42' runs July 11-13 and 18-20 (7:30 p.m. Fri/Sat/Sun and 3 p.m. Sat/Sun) at the Gonzaga Fine Arts Theatre, Ateneo de Manila University.
