Workshops, workshops!

New Voice Company weekend acting workshops
The New Voice Company, fresh from the successful staging of its V-Day Manila 2008 benefit performance of “The Vagina Monologues” by Eve Ensler back to back with V-Day’s newest work, “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer,” will hold weekend season acting workshops from October 11 to December 1, every Saturday from 1-3pm.

Classes offered this year are Acting for Teens and Adults (ages 13 and above), to be held at the NVC Actors Studio in Makati.

The course is aimed at students (13 years old and above) who wish to explore the exciting world of theater. Students will have classes in acting, movement and voice—which include acting technique and scene studies—combining various strands of performance arts. Particular emphasis is placed on combining a solid acting approach using the Stanislavski system as devised by Uta Hagen. This includes sense memory, physical and psychological actions, animal work, relationship exercises, character work, obstacles and improvisations.

No previous experience is necessary, but all students are expected to participate fully in the course.

The New Voice Company is known for its exceptionally high training standards, and uses a curriculum combining the very best of modern theater. NVC Artistic Director and Founder Monique Wilson is a graduate of the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), and gained her MA in Applied Theatre from the Central School of Speech and Drama, London. She has taught at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London and is currently Course Director/Head of MA-MFA Acting (for international students) at East 15 Drama School, one of the UK’s leading acting schools.

NVC Acting Workshops are based on the London/West End training she has brought to the company.

The other workshop teachers are all trained professionals who are practicing professional theater directors/actors/choreographers and teachers. Main workshop teacher and director is NVC associate artistic director Rito Asilo, who recently received critical acclaim for his direction of NVC’s production of “Into The Woods”.

I would like to ask if you can help me in making a 1-day theater acting workshop for my club.

Please e-mail me. Thanks!

hi JOYCE, am afraid i can't help you on that, except perhaps refer you to someone (or a group) who can. i'm not a theater practitioner, so organizing a theater acting workshop is out of my ken. perhaps a theater APPRECIATION session would be more like it, but it's clear you're aiming for something else. lemme know if you're interested in names/groups who could be of true help to you in that regard. :)

Hi sir,

May i ask if you're aware of any acting workshops opening this july or august 2010? Been doing my own share of research online too, but i thought it'll still be best to ask someone who's on the field of theater already.

Thank you,
Janellyn :)
