'Lola Basyang' now a ballet and radio show

Ballet Manila and Manila Broadcasting Company are pleased to announce the return of the legendary Lola Basyang, everyone's favorite storyteller who tells stories to children sitting at the foot of her rocking chair. Her stories are filled with enchantment, exciting characters and moral lessons.

In an unprecedented collaboration, Ballet Manila and MBC are serving up a trilogy of Lola Basyang stories two ways--as an engaging radio drama and as a magical ballet production.

"Tatlong Kuwento ni Lola Basyang" will feature "Ang Prinsipe ng mga Ibon," "Ang Kapatid ng Tatlong Marya" and "Ang Mahiwagang Biyulin." The stories are based on the Anvil Publishing editions of Severino Reyes' classics.

The "Tatlong Kuwento ni Lola Basyang" radio drama started airing over DZRH last September 29 and will run until December 5, 2008, from 12-12:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the ballet's world premiere is set for December 5, 2008, 7:30 p.m. at the Aliw Theater. Other shows will be December 6, 7, 13 and 14. "Tatlong Kuwento ni Lola Basyang" in ballet form features the country's prima ballerina, Lisa Macuja. Veteran TV and radio performer Luz Fernandez takes on the role of Lola Basyang.

The show uses the music of Ryan Cayabyab, Joey Ayala and Mon Faustino's special arrangement of musical excerpts by select National Artists. Choreography by Lisa Macuja, Osias Barroso and Tony Fabella.
