“Georgette” is based on the life of pioneer Singapore artist Georgette Chen and her journey from continent to continent, crossing customs and cultures, in pursuit of her dream--“to become an artist.”
The production is a collaboration of Singaporean artists and artistic directors, and Filipino technical directors and production managers and arts marketers. The SDA’s main objective is to provide learning and hands-on experience to students who will be involved in a multinational production.
“Georgette” was staged at the Esplanade in Singapore in June 2007 and received rave reviews. Future plans for Georgette include productions in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Beijing, London and then back to Singapore.
The Technical Theater program covers lighting, production and stage management, while the Production Design program is assigned to set, props and costumes management. Students under the Music Production program will also be involved in sound design and technical execution. The involvement of about 35 students is tied-up with the course content and output of their major subjects.
A target audience of 2,500 has been set, which includes international schools such as Singapore School Manila, International School Manila, British School Manila and Brent International School Manila; the Lasallian community--a group of 18 academic institutions and learning centers; premier universities, colleges and secondary schools in Metro Manila; and corporate partners and culture and arts councils and agencies.
