"110, A New Musical" is a thesis production of students under the Department of Speech Communication and Theater Arts: Katherine Sabate (Playwright), Arkel Mendoza (Composer and Musical Director), Bamba de Guzman (Lighting Designer and Costume Styling) and Miela Sayo (Stage and Production Management).
Directing the production is J. Victor Villareal, whose directorial credits include plays from CCP/Tanghalang Pilipino's Virgin Labfest 1-4. Other artistic staff are Paulo Santillan (Poster and Program Design), Ohm David (Technical Director) and Jojit Lorenzo (Photography).
The cast includes JC Santos, Nikka Angeles, Via Antonio, Marta Sta. Barbara, Carlo Cannu, Raymond Vergara, Miela Sayo, Joshua Deocareza, Olivia Nieto and Nicco Manalo.
Set in the theater world inside the University of the Philippines at the present time, the musical revolves around the students' practicum, also known as their Theatre 110. The play will show snippets of their lives, from their entry to the UP theater program to colorful experiences in their 110 days.
The play introduces 8 major characters whose lives intertwine, evolve and react with each other, governed by a system that has pushed them to their limits and made them question, re-affirm and relive their dreams and aspirations as students who learn and live Theater.
"110, A New Musical" will run at the Teatro Hermogenes Ylagan (THY), College of Arts and Letters, UP Diliman from March 12-14, 7 p.m.
