On the street where I live...

... This is pretty much how it looks like today. Fortunately, I live on the third floor of a five-floor condo. Unfortunately, with the waters on the streets below now thigh-high and still rising, I'm also effectively marooned.

I live, by the way, not in some dim, undeveloped corner of the metropolis, but in Makati--the country's ritziest, touted by its mayor as a model of urban progress and development. Where I live is a mere 10- to 15-minute walk to Ayala Avenue. Then again, a friend just texted me to say that Buendia, the next major thoroughfare in the city after Ayala, is now neck-deep in water.

Makati might as well start making the most of it by hiring gondoliers.

Stay safe, wherever you are.

I live in JP Rizal, Gibbs. Neck-deep ang baha sa amin. How ironic that we live in Makati, noh?

i'm stuck at home too. :c di na masyadong baha sa side namin ng makati pero i don't wanna risk it. and even if i did, i can't really go anywhere. grabe daw traffic. darn it!

naku, ingat jan, JOEL, madami diggings and open manholes diyan sa jp rizal area. :)

CITYBUOY, there is traffic pa? i thought with this deluge traffic's been rendered superfluous, haha. stay warm, dry and safe at home na lang. make use of those dvds you bought long ago and haven't seen (am assuming, haha.) :)

I saw the extent of flooding on TV. Grabe pala talaga. Nakakaawa naman yung nawalan ng mga bahay. I pray for the safety of those who are affected.

It's all terribly upsetting.

my heart goes for the affected families. but it is bound to happen. when you let a small metropolitan area be mis- and over-developed with highrises without setting up the corresponding sewage infrastructure, you get this result. where's the political will to clean up the rivers, canals and esteros clogged by squatters, garbages and big business? fear of losing votes? shouldn't part of the tax go for building better sewage systems? this is inhuman and city officials' heads should roll. we should not, even for a second, think this is a result of something natural. the reason why we never had this much flood in 50 years was that metro manila has never been this infrastructure mess in 50 years!

Makati isn't ritzy--the business district is. Outside the business district, Makati is pretty much like any other city in the country. Which is sad. No place is safe.
