On its 30th season, Ateneo Entablado (Enterteynment Para sa Tao, Bayan, Lansangan at Diyos) presents “Mutya”, a twinbill featuring the plays “Mga Santong Tao” by Tomas Remigio and “Ang Sistema ni Propesor Tuko” by Al Santos, both directed by Richard de Guzman.
“Mga Santong Tao” is a play about the couple Titay and Ambrosio and their plan to deceive three powerful men in society--the parish priest, the sakristan mayor and the fiscal--for money. Titay’s plan involves using their desires to her own advantage.
“Ang Sistema ni Propesor Tuko” is a comedy that criticizes the antiquated educational system in the Philippines. It is set in the classroom of Propesor Tuko where his four students, Bodyok, Ningning, Bondying and Kiko try to learn despite Propesor Tuko’s decrepit and dictatorial teaching methods.
“Mutya”'s production design is by Martin Malabanan, lights design by Miyo Sta. Maria and music by Maynard de Guzman.
The show runs July 4-July 20, Tuesdays to Saturdays, 7 p.m. with a 3 p.m. matinee show on July 7, at the Rizal Mini Theater, Ateneo de Manila University. Tickets, at P250, tickets, can be bought at the front of house.
